Vow/Ageless Woods/2008/CD Review

Vow are an atmospheric black metal duo from Bethlehem,Philadelphia and this is a review of their 2008 self released album "Ageless Woods".

Drums mix some mid paced parts with some fast playing and blast beats, while the keyboards add some atmosphere and atmosphere to the music and are not used as a lead instrument, as for the bass playing it is mixed down low in the mix and follows the riffs coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars mix some mid paced and fast black metal riffs with some melodic parts and there are some influences from death metal and thrash, while the lead guitars are very melodic and progressive sounding guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they use a lot of finger picking that gives the music a medieval  and ambient edge.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some deep death metal growls thrown in and some spoken word female vocals being thrown in, while the lyrics seem to touch on nature, hateful and war themes, as for the production on this album it has a very dark and raw feel.

In my opinion Vow are a very talented band and I see a good future for them, if you are a fan, if you are a fan of underground black metal that is atmospheric with a European feel you should check this band out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Phantoms Of War" "Ageless Woods" and "Dogmatic Terror". RECOMMENDED BUY.
